Aborted baby cells used to make Pepsi, Nestle, Kraft, and Campbell's tastier

Biotech company using aborted fetal cell lines to test food flavor enhancers

Children of God for Life is calling for a public boycott of major food companies partnering with Senomyx, a biotech company that produces artificial flavor enhancers using aborted fetal cell lines to test their products.

In 2010, the pro-life organization wrote to Senomyx CEO Kent Snyder, pointing out that moral options for testing their food additives could and should be used. But when Senomyx ignored their letter, they wrote to the companies Senomyx listed on their website as "collaborators" warning them of public backlash and threatened boycott. Food giants Pepsico, Kraft Foods, Campbell Soup, Solae and Nestlé are the primary targets of the boycott.

Senomyx website states: “The company's key flavor programs focus on the discovery and development of savory, sweet and salt flavor ingredients that are intended to allow for the reduction of MSG, sugar and salt in food and beverage products....Using isolated human taste receptors, we created proprietary taste receptor-based assay systems that provide a biochemical or electronic readout when a flavor ingredient interacts with the receptor.”

Their collaborators provide Senomyx research and development funding plus royalties on sales of products using their flavor ingredients.

“What they don’t tell the public is that they are using HEK 293 – human embryonic kidney cells taken from an electively aborted baby to produce those receptors”, stated Debi Vinnedge, Executive Director for Children of God for Life, a pro-life watch dog group that has monitored the use of aborted fetal material in medical and consumer products for years.

“They could have easily chosen animal, insect, or other morally obtained human cells expressing the G protein for taste receptors”, she added.

In writing to their collaborators, it took three letters before NestlĂ© finally admitted the truth about their relationship with Senomyx, noting the cell line was “well established in scientific research".

Both Pepsico and Campbell Soup also responded.

Shockingly, Pepsico wrote: “We hope you are reassured to learn that our collaboration with Senomyx is strictly limited to creating lower-calorie, great-tasting beverages for consumers. This will help us achieve our commitment to reduce added sugar per serving by 25% in key brands in key markets over the next decade and ultimately help people live healthier lives.”

Campbell Soup was more sensitive in their response: “Every effort is made to use the finest ingredients and develop the greatest selection of products, all at a great value. With this in mind, it must be said that the trust we have cultivated and developed over the years with our consumers is not worth compromising to cut costs or increase profit margins."

While Campbell didn’t state they would change their methods, their response, gave Vinnedge hope.

“If enough people voice their outrage and intent to boycott these consumer products, it may convince Senomyx to change their methods”, she noted. “Otherwise, we will be buying Coca-Cola, Lipton soups and Hershey products!”

What's Her Names Get Well Pressies

This is the gorgeous fucshia prayer shawl with a cross and dachshund on it that What's her Name's friends at the Stitching Stewards made for her.  The stitching Stewards are the prayer shawl group at St Francis Xavier and she is also a member!
These are the flowers from Grandma, What's Her Name's Mom!  She is comint to Ohio in a couple of weeks for Dad's exemplification to the 4th degree in the Knights of Columbus- They are the men who wear the capes, swords, chapeaux with feathers, and the tuxedos
This is What's Her Name's dachshund jug, from US!!!!!  She named it Baxter, since Baxter's Mom had the Etsy link on Facebook and we got it for her!  It was made in Germany too!
LOOK WHAT CAME IN THE MAIL YESTERDAY!!!!

The card was signed by the Mayor of Blogville himself, Frankie!  Honors indeed!  No we know What's Her Name will start to get better!!!

What's Her Name one week later

What's Her Name was a little sick to her stomach this weekend- lots of bloating and she started to hate her protein drink.  We kept close watch on her and this morning she seems much happier.

She really raked in the goodies- a prayer shawl with a dachshund on it!  Flowers from her Mom and her BFF Dorothy, earrings from Dad, and the most importatn- the dachshund pitcher from us!  She named it Baxter, since his mom is friend's with her on facebook and mentioned it on one of her postings.

MOM IS HOME!

We had the bestest surprise today- Dad went on errands and brought MOM HOME!  She can't pick us up or have us sit on her lap just yet, but we licked her all over we were so glad she came back from the strange place.  She looks good too, except for the pain in her eyes when she moves a certain way.

Did You Know? Saint Joseph (Feast Day: March 19)

Saint Patrick's Day: celebrating a life of mission

What's Her Name is getting on our nerves

What's Her Name is getting nervous about her bypass tomorrow, but not because she is cracker dawg crazy (she is, believe us)  She is cracker dawg nutso because she is worried about Dad and us-  Dad will be at the hospital by himself, since we aren't allowed inside!  Also, they have no family in Ohio, so you see why she has herself all worked up-  WE, on the other hand, are being abandoned yet again!  Mr Steve will be checking up on us every couple of hours while she is gone, so that should help with her worries about us.  Also, we were taken to Petco AND PetSmart for some spoiling this weekend- LOTS of yummy treats so that we behave for Dad and Mr. Steve.  (Thai and Chip just hope Ginger doesn't start doing a Puddles in front of him- she always shows off her butt when he is around, and you know what that leads too, even without Beer and Cheetohs, the breakfast of champions)

She wrote all about this at her other blog-

T-R-O-U-B-L-E !!!!!

Last night, for no reason, CHIP BIT DAD- TWICE!  First on the hand when Dad moved him in bed so that he (DAD), could get comfy.  Then, after the first bite, Dad put him on the floor and Chip jumped up and bit him in the arm!  Mom put him in the pink crate and it was brought upstairs to the bedroom.  CHIP is in big trouble- lots of retraining, and NO MORE SITTING ON THE FURNITURE, for the foreseeable future. What's Her name was upset- Chip bit Dad when Taz was living with us, but this time?  ANd he broke the skin on Dad's hand.  What's Her Name is worried about how Chip will act when he alone with Dad when she is in the hospital- so DAD is going tobe putting Chip in and out of the crate from now on- when he took Chip out this morning, no problems.  Chip is going to have a lot of work to do and so are we!

Also, Thai had his blood work again!  His weight is down to 21.3, from 21.9 last week.

UPDATE- What's Her Name made a mistake when she posted earlier- we had just gone to bed when the biting occurred.  Chip and Dad, as well as everyone else, were still wide awake when this happened!  She regrets not being clear enough about what happened

St Patricks Day 2011 Flashmob. Central Station, Sydney, Australia.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

The Lorica of Saint Patrick

Here is Fáed Fíada, "The Cry of the Deer" or "St. Patrick's Breastplate," a prayer attributed to the great Apostle of Ireland.

I arise today through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
through belief in the Threeness, through confession of the Oneness
of the Creator of creation.

I arise today through the strength of Christ with His Baptism,
through the strength of His Crucifixion with His Burial
through the strength of His Resurrection with His Ascension,
through the strength of His descent for the Judgment of Doom.

I arise today through the strength of the love of Cherubim
in obedience of Angels, in the service of the Archangels,
in hope of resurrection to meet with reward,
in prayers of Patriarchs, in predictions of Prophets,
in preachings of Apostles, in faiths of Confessors,
in innocence of Holy Virgins, in deeds of righteous men.

I arise today, through the strength of Heaven:
light of Sun, brilliance of Moon, splendour of Fire,
speed of Lightning, swiftness of Wind, depth of Sea,
stability of Earth, firmness of Rock.

I arise today, through God's strength to pilot me:
God's might to uphold me, God's wisdom to guide me,
God's eye to look before me, God's ear to hear me,
God's word to speak for me, God's hand to guard me,
God's way to lie before me, God's shield to protect me,
God's host to secure me:
against snares of devils, against temptations of vices,
against inclinations of nature, against everyone who
shall wish me ill, afar and anear, alone and in a crowd.

I summon today all these powers between me (and these evils):
against every cruel and merciless power that may oppose
my body and my soul,
against incantations of false prophets,
against black laws of heathenry,
against false laws of heretics, against craft of idolatry,
against spells of witches and smiths and wizards,
against every knowledge that endangers man's body and soul.
Christ to protect me today
against poison, against burning, against drowning,
against wounding, so that there may come abundance of reward.

Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me,
Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right,
Christ on my left, Christ in breadth, Christ in length,
Christ in height, Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of every man who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.

I arise today through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
through belief in the Threeness, through confession of the Oneness
of the Creator of creation.
Salvation is of the Lord. Salvation is of the Lord.
Salvation is of Christ. May Thy Salvation, O Lord, be ever with us.

The Thai Master School of Dachshund Cuisine

His Majesty, Thai the Magnificent, has graciously allowed What's her Name to put forth the idea of a cooking school, since it is obvious that Dad will starve to death soon, if he has to eat what she cooks!  The only edible recipes that she can make are those that she learned from her Mom, so we do know why Dad likes his meatloaf!  Dad left for Indianapolis today but came by for lunch.  To his surprise, What's her Name, with a LOT of assistance from The Thai Master Chef, made chicken salad!  The OFFICIAL Dachshund approved recipe follows:

The Thai Master Chicken Salad Deluxe

INGREDIENTS
2 lg boned and skinless chicken breasts, baked at 425 for one hour in a pan coated in olive oil, and then shredded after it cools for half an hour
1/2 red onion, minced (leave out when making for your favorite canine)
8 lg radishes, minced
2 Tablespoons dry mustard
1/2 cup of mayonnaise
pepper to taste

OPTIONAL INGREDIENTS- almonds, walnuts or pecans, finely chopped (NOT CANINE SAFE) ; dried cranberries- 1/2 cup of the nuts of your choice and a 1/2 cup of the dried cranberries; Chinese noodles

After the chicken has been completely shredded and fully cooled, mix the red onion, radishes, dry mustard, mayonnaise and pepper together in a medium mixing bowl.  Add the shredded chicken.  MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CANINE FRIEND ENSURED THAT THE CHICKEN IS SAFE ENOUGH TO USE BY ALLOWING A GENEROUS TASTE!

If so inclined, and NOT for canines- add the optional ingredients of your choice.
Chill for at least four hours, overnight is best.

Serve on a bed of lettuce, with cucumber slices, celery, carrots, and add your favorite salad dressing if so desired.  Chinese noodles also make a great crunchy addition.  Also makes a great sandwich!

The Thai Master will continue to post his offerings as his royal duties allow-  all of the Blogville residents are graciously permitted to use his Royal Recipe, and to submit those of their own two leggers!

Crazy Weekend!

What's Her Name and Dad went to the Pre Cana day at the parish and they even gave a witness- Marriage as a Sacrament!  We of course were stuck at home, being "babybsat" by Mr Steve and his nephew David- they came over every two hours to take us out and clean up after us (the latter was not expected)  We were so good too!  Dad had to go to work, so they were forced to leave the Pre Cana day right before a yummy dinner- What's Her Name was really upset as Dad was on vacation and NOT supposed to be called at all>  he didn't get home till 6 the next morning (and that is with the time cahnge!)\\

Sunday, after we let Dad sleep till noon, we went to the mall!  Dad had to have his fitting for his KNights of COlumbus tuxedo- he is going to be exemplified to the 4th degree on April 9th.  Mom is so excited for him and says that Dad make James Bond look like a slacker in a tux!  We of course were in the car, and then, we had hamburgers for being good all weekend- MOM insisted.  She sat in the back with us and even Thai was good.

Today What's Her Name went to the pool and when she came home she opened all the windows to air out the house.  When she uses the computer THAI has to be in the chair with her!  Now there is NO ROOM for her in her computer chair!

Mom has her surgery next week, on the 22nd.  We are busy keeping her company so she misses us while at the hospital!

Thai news-

Sorry for the delay in the Thai news- we were dognapped and were forced to go to Cleveland again yesterday, for THE WHOLE DAY!  What's Her Name recevied word late Tuesday afternoon that she needed to undergo MORE TESTS for her surgery and they were scheduled for the next day.  The lady who called was wonderful- she scheduled everything for one day instead of What's her Name making five more trips to CLeveland before the big day.  Dad had to go since What's Her Name was not allowed to drive home after the EGD (where a camera goes down her throat- major yuckies)  Anyhoo-  due to the late notice, we were forced to go with them and spend the day in the car!  We were well supervised- we were only left alone for a couple of hours at a time and Dad spent most of his time with us working while What's Her Name was poked and prodded by all sorts of doctors and nurses.  We did not get home till after 7 last night and MOM insisted on MacDonald's for us since we were so good- no messes in the car (OK, Thai pooped on his blanket, but Mom says that did not count) At least while What's Her Name is in the hospital for two days, we have a babysitter- Mr. Steve the floorman will be guarding and spoiling us while Dad is with Mom at the hospital.

Back to Thai- his cortisol is UP again- it is now 8.7, up from 6.3 the week before.  His weight is no 21.9, up from 20.4 the week before.  What's Her Name is in tears over this- the Verotyl is a new drug that is supposed to work even better than the Lysodren.  It appears that there is a tumor since the cortisol levels are going up unabated.  Thai will remain on the medications, and he is still a happy, green bean and treat snarking tough guy, who sits on Mom's lap in the car now- he fusses so much that she sits in the back holding all three of us on her lap!

NPR Muslim Brotherhood Investigation Part I

Vet Day

Today His Majesty, Thai the Magnificent, returns to the vet for yet another round of blood work.  Results won't be available until tomorrow.  What's Her Name is upset (what else is new), since HM is on his third medication for Cushings in six weeks.

Please pray for Thai- that this medication is working.  He eats, slepps, plays and goes outside without any noticable difference- yes he is restless and a bit whiny but that is to be expected/

New BLog!

What's her Name started a blog to help her through the surgery and afterwards!  Maybe stuff about us will be cross posted, like her great get well gift, which looks like Thai and arrived on Friday!  You don't have to follow, so don't worry about that.  What's Her Name is cracker dawg crazy anyway!

Road Trip!

Yesterday, the Dachsies With Moxie made the treacherous journey to the wilds of Aurora, OH.  The purpose of the trip was for Thai, who had expressed an interest in seeing his former stomping grounds and his first foster momma, Miss Marcia.  (His constant head butting the night before convinced What's Her Name that the trip was a very good idea!)

As evidenced by these photos from the epic journey, His Majesty, Thai the Magnificent, aka The Thai Master, has a way with the ladies!

Thai

His Majesty, Thai the Magnificent, master of all he surveys, is now taking 30 mg of Vetoryl a day.  He gets retested on the 9th of March, so maybe this will work!
